On May 13, during his working visit to Astrakhan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Governor of the Astrakhan Region Alexander Zhilkin took part in the unveiling of a monument to the outstanding Tatar poet and hero Musa Jalil in Astrakhan.

Tatarstan President expressed his gratitude to Governor of the Astrakhan region, sculptors and all those who took part in the implementation of the project. "We are very pleased that a monument to Musa Jalil appeared in Astrakhan. The memory of our heroes should live forever. You have done a very good deed for this,” Minnikhanov added.

Zhilkin stressed that Musa Jalil is an example to follow for all Russians. "Being captured, Musa Jalil continued to struggle, he wrote his poems. This is an example of how one needs to love the Motherland, never betray it and defend it, even at the expense of your own life," he said.

He continued that even before the war the famous poet visited Astrakhan, published a lot of articles about the city, local vegetable growers and fishermen. One of the historical streets of Astrakhan bears his name.

Then, Minnikhanov and Zhilkin unveiled the monument and laid flowers at it.
