On April 19, during his working visit to Teheran (Iran), Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with  First Vice-President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri.

Thanking First Vice-President for the meeting, Minnikhanov expressed his condolences in connection with the death of people during the recent severe flood in Iran's northwest, which took place on April 14-15.

Tatarstan is interested in strengthening long-term mutually beneficial cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of dynamically developing Russia-Iran relations, Minnikhanov noted. He thanked the leadership of both countries for the attention paid to the issues of expanding interregional relations.

Minnikhanov reminded that Russia became the first country that President of Iran Hassan Ruhani visited this year. During his meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, it was noted that today the countries are good neighbors and partners in solving acute international problems, and economic cooperation has reached a new stage.

Tatarstan is one of the leading and industrially developed Russian regions, Minnikhanov said. The republic has a well developed oil extraction, oil refining, petrochemical, machine building, and agricultural branches of industry. More than 50 per cent of industrial goods are exported.

"Our relationship has great potential. We are ready to supply trucks, buses, helicopters, ships, gas-pumping equipment, petrochemical products, pharmaceutical products to Iran. Cooperation in such areas as science, education, culture and sports is very important," Minnikhanov added.

Then the sides discussed current issues of further development of Tatarstan-Iran cooperation.
