Vyacheslav Volodin and Rustam Minnikhanov meet students of Innopolis University

On February 13, during his working visit to Tatarstan, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin accompanied by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of State Council of the republic Farid Mukhametshin, Minister of Information and Communication of the republic Roman Shaikhutdinov, members of the Russian State Duma visited the Innopolis University, where he had a meeting with students and teaching staff.

Opening the meeting, Minnikhanov emphasized that “the Innopolis University is the IT city's trump card”. It is planned to increase the number of students up to 5,000 and develop the existing infrastructure in the near future, he added.

«We are on the verge of great changes. The coming fourth industrial revolution is hotly discussed worldwide. Out country is thoroughly monitoring these issues and making its contribution to it,” Tatarstan President noted.

He expressed particular gratitude to Russia President Vladimir Putin and federal leadership for their overall support of the Innopolis project.

Speaking to students and teachers of the University in question and answer form, Volodin in particular paid attention to issues arising from the development and use of robotics and artificial intelligence. "In the near future the world will face the need for comprehensive legal regulation of this sphere. We, in Russia, should also start systematic and professional discussion of this issue to elaborate corresponding legal positions," he said.

Chairman of the State Duma said that a few days ago the initiative to prepare a bill on this point was announced by Dmitry Grishin, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Co-founder of Mail.Ru Group, and suggested his interlocutors taking part in the discussion as experts in robotics.

In addition to information technology, the meeting touched upon a number of other issues. In particular, Minnikhanov told the gathered about specifics of a new programme for the development of public spaces, being implemented in the republic.

Minnikhanov emphasized that all projects for the improvement of public recreation areas are implemented with the prior consent of the public. "Citizens are actively involved in these processes and their wishes are always of priority to us," Tatarstan President summed up.
