Lenar Safin reports on results of work of road and transport industry in 2016

On January 27, a joint session of Tatarstan Ministry of transport and roads on results of work in 2016 and tasks for 2017 was held in Nizhnekamsk.

Before the session Aide to Russian President Igor Levitin, Russian Minister of transport Maksim Sokolov  and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the event “Gorelectrotransport” (City electric transport) to see new models of city public transport.

Safin reported that in spite of all difficulties positive results were achieved in the sphere of air transportation. The increase in passenger flow and financial figures was registered at regional airports.

The minister said that much attention is paid to organization of railway transportation. He informed that 6.4 mln passengers were carried in 2016 that is 9 per cent less than in 2015. This is due to a large number of volunteers and fans who arrived for FINA World Championship.

The plans for the current year include railway communication between Kazan-2 railway station and Salavat Kupere housing complex. Also, the construction of Moscow-Kazan high-speed motorway is underway.

According to Safin, the main task for the republic in the short term is organization of transport service for Confederations Cup 2017 and FIFA World Cup 2018.

Speaking about road industry, the minister said that every fifth of 3,000 townships in the republic has no hard covering, and this problem should be solved in 27 villages in the current year.  

Safin focused on priority investment projects such as the international transport corridor “Europe-Western China”.
