Nominees from 33 countries to compete at XII Festival of Muslim Cinema in Kazan

The traditional XII Festival of Muslim Cinema in Kazan will be held on September 5-11. The contest programme will include 60 films from 33 countries. The festival is founded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Mayor’s Office, and the Council of Muftis of Russia. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov renders his invaluable support.

The opening ceremony of the festival will take place at Piramida complex on September 5 at 7 p.m. The closing ceremony will be held at M. Dzhalil Tatar State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre on September 11.

The contest includes new nomination “Young Russia” this year. The jury chaired by a famous film director, people’s artist of Russia, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR Aleksandr Proshkin will estimate the programme.

The main (competition) program will be evaluated by: director, screenwriter, producer Siddiq Barmak (Afghanistan / France); director, cinematographer Usman Saparov (Turkmenistan); director, writer Yusuf Razykov (Uzbekistan / Russia); cinematographer Valery Sevastyanov (Tatarstan).

Nomination «Young Russia» will be assessed by: director, writer, actor, composer Yury Bykov and director, writer and producer Alexei Barykin (Tatarstan).

The distinguished guests at the festival will be film directors Alexei Uchitel, Konstantin Lopushansky, actors Alexei Petrenko, Yuri Nazarov, Lyudmila Khityaeva, Lyudmila Chursina, Nonna Grishaeva, and others.
