Almost 100 per cent of dumps eliminated in Tatarstan - Ministry of Ecology

31.05.2016

On May 31, speaking at a briefing at Tatarstan Government House, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the republic Farid Abdulganiev said that as a result of a two-month environmental cleaning campaign, almost 100 percent of dumps have  been eliminated in Tatarstan.

He said that the environmental campaign was held from April 1 to May 31. A total of 1,817 illegal dumps were revealed and 93 per cent of them were eliminated.

"I do not think that the number of dumps increased. Their detectability grew. This is due to the active position of municipal authorities and citizens, who reported on violations for benefits provided," the minister said.

He added that public inspectors played a main part. As of today, there are 160 public inspectors in the republic. They identify about 15 per cent of all violations. One in six cases of environmental legislation breaking is fixed by public inspectors.

Great results in the detection of the dumps were achieved due to flyover inspections. They were carried out on a weekly basis with the support of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. As a result, one thousand violations were revealed.

Besides, using quadrocopters brought positive results to the campaign.

Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny districts were recognized the best. Almetyevsk, Nizhnekamsk and Verkhny Uslon regions entered the top three municipalities.

For the first time in the history of Tatarstan, more than one million Tatarstan residents took part in cleaning events.
