15.09.2010

A meeting of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov with representatives of Russia’s largest museums was held at the RT House of Government on September 15.

The museum representatives came to Kazan to take part in the International Museum Forum dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked the guests for their interest to Tatarstan and Kazan. He reminded that the Tatarstan capital had been hosting many important events, the number of which raised significantly after Kazan had marked its 1000th anniversary in 2005.

Another big event for the republic was the 1000th anniversary of the city of Yelabuga. Today, restoration of the history and architecture monuments in the island town of Sviyazhsk and the ancient town of Bolgar is underway.

Rustam Minnikhanov also said that today it is of importance to make museums attractive to tourists; to do that, infrastructure with convenient transport services and comfortable accommodation is necessary. Museum storerooms have handfuls of real treasures and interesting information that are to be demonstrated to people.

Tatarstan boasts as many as 120 museums, Rustam Minnikhanov said. Not all of them enjoy excellent conditions; a lot is still to be done.
