Tatarstan expects to receive extra funds form the federal budget, to build flats for WWII veterans, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov has today told a traditional video conference at the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The Regional Development Ministry has dead certain pledged 4.3 billion before the end of August,” the president told the meeting. “But this money has to be fought for and disbursed, and only then we will be able to receive about one billion extra, if we succeed in providing residences to all the veterans.”

Tatarstan has received 5.9 billion roubles from the federal budget, to provide homes for Great Patriotic War veterans who were recorded after March 1, 2005. The sum only proved to suffice to build flats for 6 thousand veterans of the 12 thousand on file as of the moment. The Tatarstan authorities consequently applied to the Russian Regional Development Ministry for extra financing.

A total of 10,224 agreements were concluded with veterans as of August 12.

The president said the government housing construction programmes for veterans, via the State Housing Fund and the Directorate of Municipal Housing Programmes, allowed providing them with new comfortable homes. “We have a construction capacity, the work has been organised, and we are able to build good flats for the veterans,” Minnikhanov stated.

Those trying to make a profit out of the programme will be severely punished, Minnikhanov pledged. “No violations or fraud are acceptable. They would be regarded as criminal acts,” the Tatarstan President enhanced. “I am warning the top officials, God forbid someone from any kind of thoughts! Nothing would then save you.”
