Rustam Minnikhanov holds meeting of Silk Road 2016 rally organizing committee

On March 24, at Tatarstan Government House, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting of the organizing committee of the 2016 Silk Road international rally.  

Chief of Staff of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic Shamil Gafarov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, and other officials took part in the meeting.

The Silk Road event will officially start on July, 8 at the Red Square in Moscow and finish on July, 26 in the centre of Beijing. The total length of the route is 8,500 kilometres, over half of which are special stretches. The route is laid across Russia, Kazakhstan and China. The athletes will visit Kazan as well.

Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan is famous for its history and traditions, and has a substantial experience in hosting large international sporting events.

“This year, most skilful racers from various countries will meet in Kazan. Among them are experienced masters as well as beginner pilots,”  he said. “I am sure the athletes will cover all the stages masterfully, demonstrate their best professional and human qualities, and give their fans unforgettable moments of triumph and pride for the success of their favourite teams.”

Minnikhanov said that he is sure that Russia would reaffirm its prestige as one of the world’s renowned motorsport centres.

The organising committee went on to discuss the main aspects of the Silk Road rally, as well as some organizational and technical issues.
