Rustam Minnikhanov meets with Malaysian Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met with Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, on June 29. The meeting was held at the Tatarstan House of Government.

Greeting the guest, Rustam Minnikhanov thanked him for the visit and the attention to the 2nd International Islamic Business and Finance Summit the opening ceremony of which Mahathir Mohamad attended.

“We have been trying to do a lot recently to bring Tatarstan and Russia closer to the Islamic world. We are aware those efforts are still not sufficient. We have to undertake specific projects,” the head of the republic said.

The Tatarstan President also said that the views of such an influential leader as Dr Mohamad is could be useful for Tatarstan in terms of various issues.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad thanked the Tatarstan President for the warm reception at the Tatarstan land. “We have seen a part of your republic and I see that Tatarstan occupies a very serious position. I think the relationship between our countries should strengthen,” Mahathir Mohamad emphasized.

Dr Mohamad also remarked Tatarstan implements many prospects that would be interesting to Malaysia. He was impressed by the Zelenodolsk Ship-Building Plant n.a. Gorky and expressed his interest in helicopters of the Kazan Helicopter Plant.

The Malaysian Former Prime Minister invited the Tatarstan President to visit his country. “Our interest to Malaysia is increasing each day,” Rustam Minnikhanov remarked and expressed hope that he could meet with Mahathir Mohamad and present projects that would be mutually beneficial for the countries.
