Badminton center opens in Kazan

On February 13, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Badminton World Federation Poul-Erik Høyer Larsen, President of the National Badminton Federation of Russia Sergey Shakhray, Tatarstan Minister of youth affairs and sport Vladimir Leonov, and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took part in official opening of Badminton center at Kazan Tennis Academy.

“Our dream has come true – we opened this wonderful center. It is the only specialized badminton center in the country. Badminton is a very accessible, low-cost and effective sport,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

The President reminded that only 124 sportsmen practiced badminton in the republic five years ago whereas the number has increased to 10,000 people now.

Moreover, it is planned to open a regional social children’s sports badminton school this year. According to Director of the Volga academy of sport and tourism Yusup Yakubov, all necessary documents are being prepared and the school will start working in September. He thanked Russian Ministry of Sport, President of the National Badminton Federation of Russia Sergey Shakhray, builders and sportsmen.
