The 18th Universiade object opened on 90-anniversary of TASSR

The 18th object of World Universiade 2013 – swimming pool of sport complex “KAI-Olymp” was opened on day of celebrating 90-anniversary of TASSR foundation.

RT President Rustam Minnikhanov, First deputy chairman of RF federation council Aleksandr Torshin, First deputy chairman of RF State Duma Oleg Morozov, RT Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, President of Russian student sport union Oleg Matytsin, head of Directorate of Universiade 2013 Vladimir Leonov and other officials took part in a solemn ceremony.

Aleksandr Torshin congratulated Tatarstan citizens on 90-anniversary of TASSR and commissioning of swimming pool “Olymp”.

After welcoming speeches a symbolic key was handed to owners of the swimming-poll on behalf of builders and volunteers of Universiade 2013. Later guests inspected a new object, where a friendly match between water polo teams “Olymp” and “Sintez” was going on.

Health and fitness complex “KAI-Olymp” was constructed in 2008 on the territory of future “KAI-city” near the second building of university in Novo-Savinovsky district. Finally, on day of celebrating 90-anniversary of TASSR it was commissioned. By words of Vladimir Leonov about 500 mln. roubles from federal budget were spent for its construction by the program of preparation for Games-2013. On days of holding Universiade competitions of preliminary tournament on water polo and swimming will be held in the swimming-pool. The first international start – championship of Europe on underwater swimming is to be held in July.
