Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov has approved proposal to open Romanian Honorary Consulate in Kazan

The Honorary Consulate of Romania is to open in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The issue was discussed among others at the meeting of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Constantin Grigorie, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Russian Federation, at the Kazan Kremlin on May 19.

Tatarstan Head Rustam Minnikhanov greeted Mr. Ambassador remarking that he had a very tough agenda in Kazan.

On May 18th, the Romanian Ambassador visited the Kama zone of the republic where he got acquainted with work of OAO KAMAZ and OAO ElAZ, visited the Special Economic Zone Alabuga and the industrial site of KIP Master.

“The Republic of Tatarstan is interested in broadening contacts with Romania, and in particular in increasing trade turnover,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
“We can be helpful to each other in various directions. We should seek new opportunities for cooperation not only in trade relations, but also in educational and cultural spheres,” the Tatarstan President believed.

Constantin Grigorie also told Rustam Minnikhanov that there was active work underway aimed at bringing a Romanian business mission to Tatarstan.
He also expressed hope that there will be a bilateral forum that would help Romanian and Tatarstan businessmen to know each other better and find points of interest. Contacts between the Tatarstan Chamber of Trade and Industry and that of the Constanţa County were already established.

Establishing relations between Kazan University and Bucharest University is also in process.

The Ambassador addressed the President with a proposal to organise an honorary consulate of Romania in Kazan. It will held develop relations further and encourage closer cooperation.

Rustam Minnikhanov accepted the Ambassador’s proposal suggesting that Gulnara Sergeyeva, a deputy of the Russian State Duma and a member of the interparliamentary group of friendship with Romania, could become the Honorary Consul of Romania in Tatarstan.
