President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with Russian Minister of education and science Andrey Fursenko in Kazan Kremlin

Andrey Fursenko arrived in Kazan to take part in a special session of Academic council of Kazan state university where new rector of Kazan (Volga) federal university will be presented.

“A serious event in history of Tatarstan and whole scientific school of republic will take place today, - Rustam Minnikhanov said. – Our long-term dream has come true – Kazan state university has become the federal one.

Head of Tatarstan thanked Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, chairman of Russian government Vladimir Putin and Russian Minister of education and science Andrey Fursenko for making such serious decision for republic.

Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that Kazan presents itself as a student’s city, which is being ready to host World summer Universiade in 2013. It is likewise the active capital of republic. All these factors allowed Kazan state university getting the status of federal one.

Then President of Tatarstan reminded that on April,8 within the framework of meeting on modernization of higher professional education in Novosibirsk Head of Russian government Vladimir Putin presented new rectors of federal universities. These are Mayor of Elabuga and one of founders of special economic zone “Alabuga” - Rector of Kazan (Volga) federal university Ilshat Rafkatovich Gafurov, former premier of Sverdlovsk region, rector of Ural federal university Viktor Anatolievich Koksharov, Vice-governor of Arkhangelsk region, rector of Arctic federal university Elena Vladimirovna Kudryashova, Vice-president of Sakha republic (Yakutia), rector of Northeastern federal university named after M.K.Ammosov Evgeniya Isaevna Mikhailova.
