Tatarstan President: “Strengthening of local self-government is a national issue”

A general meeting of members of All-Russia congress of municipalities 2015 with representatives of Councils of municipalities on issues of prospective areas of work of the congress and strengthening of local self-government is being held in Kazan.

The Council of municipalities of the Republic of Tatarstan is the biggest in Russia which gained a wide experience in solving issues of local self-government and effective work of the Council favours dynamic development of the republic.

On November 13, a plenary session of the meeting was held with the participation of President of All-Russia congress of municipalities, Chairman of the Committee for federative structure and issues of local self-government Viktor Kudyaev, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of State Council Farid Mukhametshin, and head of the Council of municipalities of the republic Minsagit Shakirov.

Speaking at the session, Rustam Minnikhanov said that local self-government is the most approachable level of government for the population, and results of its work influence citizens’ mood. In his opinion, general meeting of All-Russia congress of municipalities and decisions made will favour further improvement of local self-government in Russia.
