Rustam Minnikhanov and Vladimir Medinsky open first cycling route in Kazan

On October 23, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, Prime Minister of the republic Ildar Khalikov and members of bike clubs took part in the official opening of a cycling route “Amazing Kazan”. The project was realized due to the grant provided by Russian Ministry of Culture under All-Russia contest of projects on organization of cultural and educational walking and cycling routes.

According to Deputy Head of Kazan municipality Evgeniya Lodvigova, the route should be circular, comply with all safety requirements and go through historical buildings and city squares. This year the route of 5 km was stretching from the Kazan Kremlin to the Kazanka River embankment. The main route will stretch for 28 km.

Opening the ceremony, Vladimir Medinsky noted that it is the first cycling route realized under the federal programme aimed at development of walking and cycling tourism in Russian historical cities.

After the official ceremony, the guests tried the new route and cycled from the 1st of May Square to the Lenin's garden, where they were met by Aide to Tatarstan President Natalia Fishman. She presented the project of small cultural squares that will be constructed in Kazan in 2016.
