STS forum NPO-2015 was founded in 2004 on the initiative of Professor Koji Omi, one of the most influential politicians in Japan. The forum aims to eliminate barriers in using achievements of science and technology to solve problems faced by humans.

Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Arkady Dvorkovich, Board chairman of OJSC “ROSNANO” Anatoly Chubais, Prime Minister of France Manuel Valls, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe were honoured guests of the forum.

A brief welcoming meeting of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Governor of Kyoto Prefecture Keiji Yamada and Mayor of Kyoto Daisaku Kadokawa was held at the beginning of the forum.

Welcoming participants of the forum, Koji Omi said that the forum is a good platform for establishing contacts between participating countries, and for inviting companies and countries for participation in joint projects.

“I want to turn Japan into the country where innovations appear one after another. We need a system where knowledge meets knowledge and innovations attract more innovations. We need to build an innovative ecosystem. It is a major goal for the next five years,” Shinzo Abe said.

Later on the same day, Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a plenary session “Energy and environment”.
