II International archeological field school opened in Kazan
18.08.2015On August 18, solemn opening of II International archeological field school to be held on 17 -30 August, 2015 co-organized by Institute of archeology named after A. Khalikov and Kazan Federal University in conference hall of Memorial plaque honoring the acceptance of Islam in Bolgar state historical-architectural museum reserve. The organizational and financial support was rendered by Regional Fund for revival of historical and cultural monuments and Bolgar state historical-architectural museum reserve.
The school programme features final conference on “Topical issues of reservation and investigation of the Eurasian cultural heritage”, shared lectures and round tables on key issues. The participants will get acquainted with historical sites, such as Museum of Bolgar civilization, the White Mosque, Museum of Bread and other places of interest.
The aim of the school is to consolidate scientific research works based on a practical application of the latest scientific developments into investigation of the Eurasian cultural heritage.
It should be mentioned that I International archeological field school was held in Bolgar in 2014 and was attended by 40 young scientists from different regions of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. A group of leading experts were invited as lecturers, including leading researches from Russian Academy of Sciences, Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, scientific institutions of the Crimea, Samara and Ulyanovsk.
The school is attended by more than 100 students and researches from 25 countries. Within two weeks the participants will attend the following workshops: archaelogic-biology methods, archaeological glass, GIS in archaeology, history of ancient ceramics, history of ancient metallurgy and metalworking, experimental trace analysis on ancient tools and paleoanthropology. More than 50 scientists both from Russian and foreign research centers are expected to teach at school.
Tatarstan Deputy Minister of Culture Svetlana Persova addressed participants of the school with welcoming speech and expressed hope that the students will adopt long-term joint experience of state and scientific establishments to reserve site of Bolgar ancient settlement and turn it into UNESCO World Heritage List site.
