On May 29, at the Neftechimic Ice Palace in Nizhnekamsk Acting Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in solemn events dedicated to the Chemist’s Day.

Today’s events were dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in WWII, the 95th anniversary of Tatarstan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the 25th anniversary of the statehood of the Republic of Tatarstan, the 160th anniversary of the Nefis Cosmetics Company, 125th anniversary of the Tupolev Kazan Technical University, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Minister of Chemical Industry of the USSR Kostandov and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry.

The Day of Chemist held for the fifth time is a professional holiday Tatarstan chemists has begun to celebrate since 2011 (the first time it was held in Kazan, and since 2012 the holiday has been held in Nizhnekamsk).

Speaking at the event, Presidential Envoy to the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich noted that the chemical and petrochemical industries are strategically important for the district. "Almost 50 per cent of the chemical and petrochemical enterprises of Russia are located in the Volga Federal District,” he said.

According to Babich, in recent years many Russian companies have managed to implement the most advanced projects within the framework of the technological renovation of their facilities for the production of new products.  “Tatarstan petrochemical industry has strong growth prospects and is a huge driver of the economy”, he continued.  

Congratulating the audience on the Chemist’s Day, Minnikhanov said that over the past decades the republic has successfully implemented three programmes to develop the petrochemical complex, and today we have a task to implement the fourth programme.

"I am sure that this programme will be implemented, because the petrochemical industry is a" growth point "of our entire industry. Due boosting oil refining and petrochemistry, the processing industry has increased significantly, which give us a competitive advantage," he concluded.
