Farid Mukhametshin was re-elected as Chairman of Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan

Today the House of Friendship hosted the 3d conference of the Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan. Tatarstan parliament Speaker, Chairman of the Assembly’s Council Farid Mukhametshin chaired the meeting. The conference was attended by delegates from national associations, vice chief of staff of the President of the Republic - head of the Presidential Department on Domestic Policy Alexander Terentyev, heads of ministries and departments and other officials. Members reviewed the work of the Assembly for 2012 - 2014 years and re-elected leaders of the Assembly.

Acting President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov welcomed the guests and participants of the conference. “The Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan is one of the largest and most influential institutions of civil society, which plays an important role in the social and cultural life of the country,” R. Minnikhanov said.

Farid Mukhametshin spoke about the economic challenges facing the republic today. “Just over a year ago, our country and the republic entered a new period of development, a very difficult period, featured by the growth of international tension and aggravation of the geopolitical situation, serious complications and challenges in the economic sphere. However, despite this, Tatarstan continues to demonstrate the growth of the main socio-economic indicators.

The participants have also discussed political issues. On March 24 President of Russia appointed R. Minnikhanov an Acting President of Tatarstan. The delegates expressed their support for the leader of the republic and wished him successful elections.

Delegates elected members of the Assembly’s Council, Chairman of the Council, vice-chairs, head of the Executive Committee and members of the Audit Commission. Farid Mukhametshin was unanimously re-elected as Chairman of the Assembly’s Council.

For reference: The decision to establish the Assembly was taken in 2007 during the Second Congress of the Peoples of Tatarstan. The Assembly currently includes 85 national associations, representing 35 nations. The republic has 132 national and cultural centers.
