Farid Mukhametshin arrived in Strasbourg

Today Tatarstan Parliament Speaker Farid Mukhametshin arrived in Strasbourg to participate at the 28th plenary session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The main issues on the agenda are current situation in the World, federal and migration policies in several European countries.
Prior to the plenary session the Bureau of Chamber of Regions and political groups held meetings. Parliamentarians discussed the latest political developments and regional election results held in Europe.
European legislators discussed situation in Ukraine and expressed deep concern over the events taking place in the country.
Main focus of the discussion was the strategy of Congress to fight against radicalization at the local level.
After terrorist attacks that took place in Paris early this year, the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe addressed the political structures of Europe with request to present exact proposals how to strengthen measures to combat terrorism.
In the near future Congress intends to adopt the Global Plan of Action of the Council of Europe to combat radicalization that lead to terrorism. The Congress works in this direction for many years in a row. Its proposals contained in such documents as the Resolution on the fight against terrorism, Recommendation concerning intercultural and interfaith dialogue, Resolution on solving the problem of interfaith and intercultural tensions at local level and others will be included in the Global Plan of the Council of Europe.
Tomorrow, on March 24 Tatarstan parliament Speaker Farid Mukhametshin will chair the meeting of the Current Affairs Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
