On March 3, 2015 Tatarstan Parliament Speaker awarded 34 women veterans from all over the republic with a commemorative medal “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945”. The solemn ceremony was attended by the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan and parliamentarians.
The medal was awarded to participants in battles on the Great Patriotic War fronts, people working on the home front, former child prisoners of concentration camps and ghettoes.
On behalf of the republic's leadership the head of parliament expressed his gratitude and deep respect to women veterans and congratulated them on the upcoming holidays - the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and International Women's Day.
“Thank you for everything you have done for our country. You endured hardships of war and in those difficult years you worked hard to raise our economy,” F. Mukhametshin said.
“Our hospital, where I worked as military surgery, received hundreds of thousands of wounded. We took care of 3,000-5,000 of wounded soldiers per day. Two times the figure reached 10,000 people. But none of us had ever doubted our victory. All were unanimous and confident that we will win and reach the goal,” Great Patriotic War veteran Tatiana Emelina said.
Before the ceremony veterans toured the Parliamentary Centre of the State Council and visited plenary session chamber and parliamentary museum.
Women veterans were accompanied by health workers and social security authorities.
