Farid Mukhametshin reported on election results of Current Affairs Committee in Strasbourg

Today, on December 1, Chair of the Current Affairs Committee, Tatarstan Parliament Speaker Farid Mukhametshin participated at a meeting of the Bureau of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Brussels. He reported on the results of his committee meeting held last October in Strasbourg.
F. Mukhametshin informed his colleagues on the election procedure of a Chair of the Committee. As a reminder, the Congress was renewed almost completely at the 27th session of the Committee. Farid Mukhametshin, representing the interests of Russian regions, was the only one who was re-elected for a second term on an alternative basis.
The Head of Tatarstan Parliament made a report on the partnership of civil society institutions, forms of engaging of young people at the activities of the institutions of representative democracy, as well as involvement of women in public life at local and regional levels. Farid Mukhametshin noted that the Committee intends to strengthen cooperation with youth organizations and attract more activists to the Congress’ activities.
The Bureau of the Congress highly appreciated the work of the Current Affairs Committee. Next meeting of the Bureau is scheduled for March 2015 and will be dedicated to combating poverty among women and strengthening protection of children's rights in the light of global crises.
Farid Mukhametshin also participated at the meeting of the Bureau of the Chamber of Regions of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Meeting participants reported on the activities of pro-European Parliaments in Ukraine and ongoing conflicts in Georgia.
