Session of the UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry opens in Kazan

On November 18, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Russian Deputy Minister of Natural resources and ecology – Head of Federal Forestry Agency Ivan Valentik, Deputy CEO of the UNECE Andrey Vasiliev took part in opening of the 72nd session of the UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry in Kazan (November 18-21).

The session will discuss assessment of opportunities and ways of participation of forest sector in formation of conditions of “green economy” in global and regional scale; innovative approaches in production and use of forest products; forest resources assessment of a region of the UNECE; registration of priorities of “green economy” upon development and realization of forest policy; strengthening of the influence of forest sector on development and wellbeing of society; stable forest management as a method of climate change management.

The session of the UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry will be held in Russia for the first time. The proposal about holding the session was made by CEO of the UNECE and was supported by Russian Government.

Traditionally, 150-200 experts in the sphere of forestry from Europe and other regions, government officials, politicians, representatives of national and international organizations, research centers, business and other non-government organizations take part in sessions of the UNECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry.

Russian Deputy Minister of Natural resources and ecology Ivan Valentik read out greetings from Minister of Natural resources and ecology Sergey Donskoy and Chairman of Russian State Duma Sergey Naryshkin.

Ildar Khalikov, in his turn, welcomed participants of the session and wished them efficient work and good impressions from acquaintance with history and culture of Kazan. He also read out greetings from Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.
