This year, the festival received 513 applications from 56 countries of the world (Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, and South Korea participated for the first time). The competition program of the festival included 50 films from 22 countries.
Farid Mukhametshin welcomed participants and guests of the festival on behalf of the President of Tatarstan and public authorities of the republic.
He delivered a message on behalf of the President of Tatarstan. “It is significant that the festival, which was founded in the year of celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Kazan, celebrates its 10th anniversary in the Year of Culture and the year of proclamation of Kazan as a cultural capital of the Turkic World. During this time, the festival has not only become one of the most important cultural events in Russia, but also won the recognition of the international filmmaking community, having firmly confirmed its status of “humane film festival”. Today, it is a unique platform of creative dialogue and exchange of experiences between domestic and foreign cultural figures,” the message reads.
Farid Mukhametshin reminded that Tatarstan cinema will soon turn 90 years old. “I am confident that Tatarstan cinema will hold a winning place both on TV screens and theatres. This is what we’re trying to achieve through festivals like this,” he explained.
President of the festival Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin thanked the leadership of Tatarstan for their support in organizing the festival in Kazan.
The ceremony was concluded with a song “Go Ahead, Festival” performed by an “All Star band”.
