On June 23, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov took part in opening of the International conference, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of electron paramagnetic resonance discovery by Evgeniy Zavoyskiy and XVII International Young Scientists School "Actual Problems of Magnetic Resonance and its Applications".
More than 150 people from 17 countries, including France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Holland, Finland, Israel, and Georgia, as well as scientists from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Kazan participate in the conference.
“Many outstanding people have worked at Kazan University, but the name of Academician Zavoiskiy holds a special place in the list. We consider him to be the author of the magnet resonance. The methods of magnetic resonance are used almost everywhere,” Rector of Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov said at the beginning of the meeting.
Ildar Khalikov welcomed participants of the forum on behalf of Tatarstan President and Government. “There is good reason to be proud of the achievements made by our fellow-citizens and university. Thirteen Nobel prizes were awarded for the achievements in the development of magnetic resonance methods and their applications in various scientific fields. And due to magnetic resonance tomography many of the elements have appeared in the lives of ordinary people, allowing them to keep healthy, develop the industry and reach new heights for the benefit our as well as many other countries, " Ildar Khalikov said.
According to him, the discovery of paramagnetic resonance have given great impetus to make investigations of other resonance phenomena. Thus, Kazan Scientist Semen Altshuler contributed greatly to the development acoustic resonance.
"Today, major international forums, European and World Championships are held in Kazan. Last year, Kazan hosted the Universiade. The capital of Tatarstan is changing every year. I hope that event managers will show you Kazan and I am sure that your visit to the capital of the republic will become an additional incentive for fruitful and successful work,” Ildar Khalikov summed up.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the International Tomography Center of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Renad Sagdeev reminded that the electron paramagnetic resonance was discovered by Evgeniy Zavoiskii at Kazan University exactly 70 years ago.
The conference and school will be held at Kazan Federal University and Kazan Physical-Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences on June, 22 -27. The conference programme includes all aspects of the theory and applications of modern magnetic resonance methods in physics, biology, organic and bioorganic chemistry, medicine, geochemistry and geological exploration, etc. The conference materials will be published in a special issue of the journal «Applied Magnetic Resonance» afterwards.
