Council of Europe held Conference on challenges facing the youth today

On June 12 the international conference “Promoting active citizenship and involvement of young through the institutions of representative democracy” was held at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg. Tatarstan Parliament Speaker, Chairman of the Current Affairs Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe Farid Mukhametshin welcomed the Forum participants.

He noted that today young people have become an integral part of modern society, bearing special responsibility for the continuity of history and culture, lives of elder and new generations and, eventually, for the survival of peoples of the world as cultural and historical communities.

Chairman of the RT State Council noted that young people living in Russia support changes, so that to increase socio-economic welfare of the country, development of civil society and building a legal state.

According to the Head of Tatarstan Parliament, involvement of young people in the decision-making processes helps to take more balanced decisions and reduces “the degree of tension” in relations with public institutions.

Agenda of the conference includes extensive discussions with participation of representatives of all states of the Council of Europe and international experts. The conference is organized under the theme of activities of the Congress “Empowering Youth: a shared responsibility for cities and regions”.
