The Rais of Tatarstan takes part in the plenary session of Eastern Economic Forum

On September 3, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as key guests of the forum, including President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister of Mongolia Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Vice President of Myanmar Nyo Saw, and Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Ding Xuexiang.

In his speech, Putin emphasized that Russia is an active participant in investment and trade cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Our strategic line is to make the Russian Far East a territory of cooperation and dynamic transformation in the economy and infrastructure, technological development and workforce training, as well as in the social sphere. Our projects and programmes, along with support mechanisms for business and public initiatives, are aimed at achieving this goal,” the Russian President said.

“Over the past 11 years, approximately 25 trillion roubles in capital investment has been attracted to Russia’s Far Eastern regions. Investment activity, industrial output and construction have consistently grown faster than the national average. In particular, the gross regional product of the Far East has more than tripled over the past 11 years”, Putin noted, describing this as a very strong growth rate.

The President also announced the launch of the updated Strategy for the Development of the Far Eastern Federal region, which will run through 2036. Its key objective is to maintain the region’s high growth rates and launch new investment cycles.

Vladimir Putin outlined a number of key priorities for the region’s development.

“We will continue developing mineral extraction in the eastern and northern parts of the country, including oil, gas, coal, gold and rare earth metals,” he emphasized.

The capacity of high-tech industries is also expected to increase, including shipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing, robotics and electronics, mechanical engineering, the space industry and pharmaceuticals.

The construction of new industrial facilities and modernization of existing production will continue. Particular emphasis will be placed on high environmental standards and advanced technologies.
