On 20 June the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and the Chairman of the Management Board of the Movement of the First Artur Orlov visited the Tatar national holiday Sabantuy held in the birch tree grove in the settlement of Mirnyy in Kazan.

Upon their arrival to the festive site, Rustam Minnikhanov and other guests looked round national homesteads where regions of the republic represented traditions, everyday life and culture of the Tatars.

When walking round homesteads, Rustam Minnikhanov met families of peoples of the Volga region, spoke with leaders of the agro-industrial complex, took a picture with active members of the Movement of the First and talked to participants of the Special Military Operation. The guests also watched national amusements and games and got acquainted with master-classes on national decorative folk crafts.

Welcoming participants and guests of the holiday, Rustam Minnikhanov stated that Sabantuy is one of the most loved holidays in the republic which is celebrated practically in all settlements. ”From the bottom of my heart I congratulate you with our beloved holiday-the Day of the Plough. It is very important as bread is the staff of life. Today we have with us heads of municipalities, wonderful homesteads, actors, sportsmen and what is most important – we have all our friends here. I sincerely welcome all of you in the capital of our republic. Sabantuy is held here in every village, every region and every city with the final festival traditionally taking place in Kazan,” he said and reminded about a grandiose event in its scale and significance - the Russia-ASEAN summit held recently in Kazan.

The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin emphasized the special meaning of the Sabantuy holiday for the city and said: “This celebration, which, like Kazan itself, is more than a thousand years old, symbolizes the end of spring field work. We are happy that our residents have bread on their tables and that we live in one friendly family.”

In his turn the Hero of Russia Artur Orlov thanked for an invitation to take part in the holiday and added: “It is a great honor for me to be present at Sabantuy. I thank the Rais of the republic for careful preservation of spiritual values and the unity of people. The most important is that the nest generation – the future of our country – is taking part in celebrations.”

Residents of Kazan and guests of the city tried their hand on various national sports activities and listened to a concert of more than 2 thousand artists. For the first time, a youth Sabantuy site was organized for young guests.
