Rustam Minnikhanov: Tatarstan attaches great attention to the development of cooperation with Vietnam

On 16 June, speaking at his meeting with the Prime Minister of Vietnam Le Minh Hung in the Kazan Kremlin, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that the republic attaches great attention to the development of cooperation with Vietnam within the framework of friendly Russia-Vietnam relations. 

Le Minh Hung has come to Tatarstan as the Head of a high rank Vietnamese delegation to take part in the Russia-ASEAN Summit.

Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that Vietnam is one of key partners of Russia in the Asian-Pacific region and relations between two countries are characterized by comprehensive strategic partnership and are based on many years of experience of close interaction on a wide range of issues.

“Tatarstan has experience of working with Vietnamese partners. I have visited your country many times and last time was there in 2025 when we had a number of high level meetings, We hope your visit will facilitate strengthening of our friendly ties,” he said and stated that both the republic and Vietnam have well established economic bonds and last year the mutual trade turnover reached 63m dollars US. 

The Rais of the republic also informed about Tatarstan and main branches of its economy, having also stated the importance of developing joint work in the humanitarian sphere. He told that there are 40 students from Vietnam studying at universities of the republic and a number of regional universities have ties with Vietnamese university partners. 

“There are about 700 Vietnamese living in the republic and the national-cultural society "Doanket" was created under the Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan. They regularly hold their national fests and events which promotes rapprochement between the peoples living in Russia and strengthens interethnic friendship,” Rustam Minnikhanov said and proposed to establish a General Consulate of Vietnam in Kazan for more active development of bilateral ties. 

In addition he also proposed to expand bonds in the sphere of tourism and invited guests from Vietnam to visit Tatarstan. 

In his turn Le Minh Hung thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for a warm welcome and the hospitality. “I am sure the Russia-ASEAN summit will give an impetus to the development of cooperation between Vietnam and Russia. We are pleased to note that recently the Russian Federation, under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, and the Republic of Tatarstan, under your leadership, continue to achieve tremendous results in the economy and other areas. I would like to emphasize that people of Vietnam will always remember sincere support and help of Russian people in our fight for national liberation and reunification of the country.” 

The Vietnamese Prime Minister also left an entry in the distinguished visitors' book.
