Rustam Minnikhanov meets Minister of Economy and Tourism of the UAE Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri

On 4 June, speaking at his meeting the Minister of Economy and Tourism of the UAE Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov stated that today the republic takes an active part in the development of bonds between Russia and the United Arab Emirates. “The region aims to increase trade turnover, and attracting Emirati investment into the projects of the republic is seen as a promising area. A special fund could facilitate this,” he said.

“Interaction in agriculture as well as in power industry and innovative technologies and digitalization is also an important and promising sphere,” the Rais of the republic emphasized.

The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation in transport and logistics. Specifically, they expressed interest in developing cross-border trade and optimizing freight transportation between Russia and the Middle East by using UAE ports as transshipment hubs. 

“This significantly decreases the delivery time and cuts transportation costs,” Rustam Minnikhanov added.

 The meeting also discussed cooperation in the area of ​​partner financing and the development of joint financial products to support small and medium-sized businesses.
