Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in off-site meeting of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management

On 29 May the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in an off-site meeting of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management held in the republic by the First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Natalya Komarova and which discussed the development of a municipal solid waste (MSW) management system in Tatarstan.

Speaking at the meeting, Natalya Komarova said that “this is systemic work which the Committee does by an errand of the Chairman of the Federation Council in the regions to adapt the passed federal laws characterizing the state of affairs in terms of solid municipal waste landfills”.  

In his turn Rustam Minnikhanov thanked the leadership of the country represented by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the Government and the Federation Council, for their attention to the issues of reforming the municipal solid waste management industry and said: “Ecology and the waste management system define the life quality of citizens.”

He stated that Tatarstan is consistently working in this direction having significantly reduced air pollutant emissions and wastewater discharges in recent years. Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that the decision taken by the Russian President about implementation of the national project “Ecology” has given an additional impetus to the branch and 30 events have been implemented in the republic within the framework of this project. It is especially important that industrial enterprises have actively joined the work, he said and informed about work being done in the republic in the spheres of waste management, elimination of accumulated environmental damage and liquidation of unauthorized landfills.
