On May 29, the Rais(Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived on a working visit in Nizhnekamsk, took part in a solemn start of the renovation of the Park of Petrochemists in Nizhnekamsk.

In preparation for the 2027 anniversary of Nizhnekamskneftekhim, SIBUR initiated a large-scale reconstruction of the Petrochemists’ Park, one of the city’s favorite recreational areas, originally opened in 2011.

The concept for the renovated park was developed by Project Group 8, the team that previously created the Semya Park (Family Park) and the Krasny Klyuch embankment in Nizhnekamsk.

The project is being implemented jointly with the city administration and the Institute for Urban Development of Tatarstan. The concept was developed with active public participation: online surveys and interviews were conducted in the park, and public discussions were held in May 2026. Residents approved the project and emphasized the importance of preserving the petrochemical theme and honoring the memory of the city’s pioneer builders.

As a result, the unique design code of the nine-hectare park includes flowing lines and visual references to chemistry, molecules and the connections that drive creation and development.

The renovated park will feature three parking areas with a total of 154 spaces, functional lighting, weather-protected canopies in the main square, food outlets, rental services, public restrooms, gazebos and a pavilion for workshops and educational activities in the smaller square.

The project prioritizes the preservation of mature trees and includes expanded landscaping. A cycling path will be added, while the sports zone will include an early physical development center, active sports areas and inclusive recreational facilities.

An ice rink will be installed in the park during the winter season. Organizers noted that the rink operated this past winter proved highly popular among local residents.

Chairman of the Management Board of SIBUR Mikhail Karisalov reported that public hearings had been conducted and that residents demonstrated a high level of engagement in discussing the future of the park. In response to public requests, a dog-walking area will also be included in the project.

An amphitheater will be constructed in the park. Sports facilities will be provided for children, including an athletic development center for children aged two to ten, as well as recreational and fitness areas for senior citizens.

Small and medium-sized businesses will also be invited to participate in the development of the park, including through the establishment of food and beverage outlets.

“In this anniversary year for the city, we are launching a landmark project. Following reconstruction, the Petrochemists’ Park will become a major attraction both for Nizhnekamsk residents and for visitors to the city,” Minnikhanov said.
