Rustam Minnikhanov visits Brest Fortress

On 24 May the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov began his working programme in Brest oblast by visiting the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex which in May 1965 was awarded the title of the “fortress-hero” for heroic defense during the battles in June-July 1941. 

The Brest Fortress is a symbol of courage and tragedy of the first days of the Great Patriotic War. It became the embodiment of the unbending resilience of Soviet soldiers: the garrison held the line, completely surrounded, without food or water for over a month (June 22 – July 20, 1941). 

During the visit Rustam Minnikhanov laid the flowers to the monument “Courage”.
