Address from Rustam Minnikhanov on the occasion of the Day of Official Adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria

On 21 May in his address on the occasion of the Day of Official Adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria, the Rais (head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated residents and guests of the republic with the event and wrote: ”This is the event which has defined the civilization development of the Tatars for centuries ahead. 

The choice made by our ancestors in 922 laid solid foundations of spiritual, legal and cultural traditions. The continued historical succession, expressed in a careful attitude towards moral and religious values, is the foundation of our identity.

Today when the whole Muslim world is going through serious difficulties we should strengthen the unity of Umma, firmly and confidently defending common ideals and principles. In this respect Tatarstan is an example of constructive interaction and cooperation. This is confirmed by the results of the International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic world”.

I am sure that celebrations of the Day of Official Adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria  together with other Muslim events will become one of bright events of the Year of Unity of Peoples of Russia proclaimed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin and will facilitate further strengthening of inter-religious and inter-ethnic peace and concord in the society.”  

In conclusion the Rais of the republic wished everyone happiness, kindness and prosperity.
