On May 14, on the sidelines of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Minister of Finance and Revenue of Myanmar Kan Zaw and Union Minister for Industry and Micro, Small, and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSME) Development of Myanmar Charlie Than.

Welcoming the guests in Tatarstan, Minnikhanov thanked them for their attention to the forum and participation in its events.

He noted that he had visited Myanmar in 2013 and 2022 and asked to convey greetings and best wishes to Min Aung Hlaing, who was elected President of Myanmar in April this year.

“In January 2023, we marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Myanmar. Mutual respect and trust, as well as readiness to support one another, especially during difficult stages of national development, form a solid foundation for bilateral relations,” the Rais of Tatarstan said.

“Tatarstan also attaches great importance to cooperation with your country under the Russian–Myanmar relations. We have good opportunities for further increasing trade turnover and expanding overall cooperation,” Minnikhanov emphasized.

A number of companies from Tatarstan already have experience of cooperation with partners from Myanmar.

Minnikhanov particularly emphasized that Tatarstan is always open to international partnership.

“We have strong competencies in such areas as petrochemicals, mechanical engineering, information technology, agriculture and other sectors. Competitive products are manufactured in the republic. Our goal is to expand exports, strengthen the positions of Tatarstan enterprises and attract investment,” the Rais of the republic said.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed cooperation in culture, science and education, sports and tourism.
