A briefing at the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan informs how Tatarstan will celebrate Victory Day

On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.

In her turn the regional Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Protection Elmira Zaripova told participants of the briefing that for the last ten years the number of participants and witnesses of the memorial historical events decreased nearly tenfold and 310 war veterans from Tatarstan crossed the hundred-year mark.

She also told about special gifts and monetary subsidies given to veterans on behalf of the Rais (Head) of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov on the occasion of the Victory Day and various support measures such as priority medical treatment, free medications, medical examinations, spa treatment and technical rehabilitation equipment, and social services they are provided with.

“On the eve of the Victory Day, a monument to Ildus Mostyukov – the Hero of Socialist Labour, who is well known not only in the republic but also beyond it, will be erected and opened, symbolizing a tribute of memory and respect to Mostyukov, as well as to the generation he represented,” Leyla Fazleeva announced.

The Deputy Head of the Kazan Executive Committee Azat Abzalov told about various events such as a military parade, the military machinery exposition and festive fireworks to be held on 9 May.
