Rais of Tatarstan gives an errand to step up control over snow removal from roofs and get ready for spring flooding

On 7 March at a regional meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov gave an errand to step up control over snow removal from roofs and get ready for spring flooding.

He stated that situation with the snow and ice removal in the republic is still unsatisfactory as cases of snow masses falling from roofs are being recorded everywhere. Sometimes people were only moments away from tragedy and there are roof collapses in social institutions, residential buildings and commercial properties, Rustam Minnikhanov said.

“Heads of municipalities should organize a daily monitoring of the roofs condition especially, in places with large numbers of people and residential areas. The State Housing inspection of the republic must carry out unscheduled checks of management organizations and hold violators accountable. There are also many complaints of residents of the republic concerning waste removal and these issues also need to be taken under control,” he said.

Given the abnormal winter precipitation, a complex flood situation is expected in the republic, the Rais of the republic said and gave an errand to heads of municipalities, the administrations of the Emergencies Ministry, the Ministry of Transport and Road Economy, the Ministry of Construction and Minister of Agriculture of the republic to take a set of preventive measures such as snow removal,  cleaning culverts and storm drains on roads at risk of flooding and construction of drainage channels.

“It is also necessary to plan evacuation routes to temporary accommodation points for the population and temporary accommodation places for farm animals and birds. It is necessary to provide material and financial reserves for the prevention and elimination of the consequences of floods in populated areas prone to flooding and conduct a house-to-house inspection and inform citizens. It is also important to check and prevent flooding of warehouses with pesticides and fertilizers,” the Rais of the republic emphasized.

Rustam Minnikhanov also congratulated women of the republic with the upcoming International Women’s Day and added: “May this spring day, filled with pleasant congratulations, bring joy and good mood to all women.”
