Rustam Minnikhanov visits Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry

On February 25, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and the President of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan Rifkat Minnikhanov and other officials paid a visit to the Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, which was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Research Director of Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry, Academician Oleg Sinyashin.

Founded in 1945, the institute is the largest chemical research center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Volga region. Its work encompasses both fundamental research and applied solutions addressing national and regional priorities. The institute currently employs 233 researchers and develops advanced areas including new pharmaceuticals and biomedical technologies, innovative materials and green chemistry.

During the visit, Minnikhanov got acquainted with the cutting-edge research in pharmaceuticals, environmental protection, phosphorus chemistry and advanced technologies aimed at optimizing hydrocarbon extraction and processing.

He also visited the world-class interdisciplinary laboratory “Redox-Active Molecular Systems,” focused on developing new treatments for oncological diseases, including hybrid drugs combining photodynamic therapy and photopharmacology.

At their meeting with representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, they covered preparations for the 150th anniversary of Aleksander Arbuzov in 2027 and prospects for cooperation within the future Center for Academic Science in Kazan.

Special attention was paid to promoting natural sciences among young people. Minnikhanov noted the success of the “Physics and Mathematics Breakthrough” project in the republic and announced plans to launch a similar “Physics and Chemistry Breakthrough” initiative.
