Rustam Minnikhanov: Our economy needs a constant inflow of qualified scientific and engineering specialists

On 11 February, speaking at a meeting with lecturers of events dedicated to the Russian Science Day held in Rameev IT Park in Kazan, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that the economy of the republic needs a constant inflow of qualified scientific and engineering specialists.

Rustam Minikhanov emphasized that the republic is the backbone region of social and economic development of the country with powerful industrial and scientific and educational foundation. It occupies the 7th place in Russia in the amount of its GRP, the second position in the construction scale and the fifth in the amount of industrial production.

“We understand that the training of scientific and engineering personnel should begin at school. The republic traditionally attaches special attention to popularization of science among children and young people, advanced development of research and engineering competencies in the younger generation, as well as career guidance work, the Rais of the republic said.

He also mentioned two specialized educational and research centers for gifted children, the regional “Success” concept of the development of the vocational training system and the educational project “Breakthrough in Physics and Mathematics” being implemented in the republic since 2024.  

He also noted that Tatarstan strives to instill knowledge-intensive business skills in young people from a very early age. Students from universities of the republic occupy first place in the country in terms of the number of applications for the federal competition "Student Startup" and second place in terms of the number of winning projects, Rustam Minnikhanov stated.

In conclusion he congratulates participants of the meeting with the Russian science Day and thanked them for having joined today’s events.

The participants of the meeting also discussed main areas of development for science popularization projects in Tatarstan, as well as new opportunities for using artificial intelligence in the implementation of educational and popular science initiatives. The President of the Russian Academy of Education Olga Vasilyeva praised the development of the  scientific and educational complex of the republic, noting that best practices are being implemented in Tatarstan, yielding positive results.
