Rustam Minnikhanov: Tatarstan scientific and educational complex is showing positive development dynamics

On 6 February on a ceremony dedicated to the Day of Russian Science in the Kazan Kremlin the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov handed in state awards to winners of the state prizes of the republic in the field of science and technology and outstanding scientists of the republic.

Speaking at the ceremony the Rais of the republic emphasized that in recent years the scientific and educational complex of Tatarstan has demonstrated positive development dynamics and a significant breakthrough was achieved in a number of key parameters. Thus, funding for science has tripled over the past five years and the number of research personnel has reached a record high. He thanked the Russian President, the federal Government and Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education for supporting regional initiatives.

Rustam Minnihanov stressed that universities of the republic and the Kazan Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences systematically expand their presence within the framework of the most important strategic programs for the development of the domestic system of higher education and science, including national projects “Youth and Children”, “Efficient and Competitive Economy”, “Priority-2030” and others.

“It is gratifying that last year scientific and educational institutions of the republic systematically joined in the implementation of national technological leadership projects. Our industry is also actively involved in the scientific and technological development of the republic. With the support of large businesses, the process of expanding and modernizing world-class university campuses continues in the cities of Tatarstan. In addition, we expect the opening of a full-cycle corporate scientific and technical center of the SIBUR in Kazan,” he said.

The Rais of the republic noted that Tatarstan attaches special attention to improvement and introduction of new regional tools for incentivizing scientific work, including numerous grant and fellowship projects, various competitions and scientific prizes and a unique programme of improving the living conditions of young scientists. Tatarstan confidently holds third place in the national ranking of scientific and technological development of regions of the country. ”The best representatives of the scientific community of the republic who have made a substantial contribution into the development of domestic science have gathered here today. I thank each of you for your important and much needed work. I am sure brining your developments into life will give an impetus to further development of Tatarstan and the country in the whole,” he said and in conclusion handed in the state awards and prizes.
