Rustam Minnikhanov: Tatarstan attaches special attention to development of cooperation with Sultanate of Oman

On 1 February, upon his arrival to the Sultanate of Oman, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with the Deputy President of the Oman Investment Authority Mulham Al-Jarf, where he stated that Tatarstan attaches special attention to the development of cooperation with Sultanate of Oman for the benefit of strengthening friendly relations of Russia and Oman.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that in April last year he took part in the negotiations of leaders of the two countries during the visit of the Head of Oman to Russia, emphasized the importance of participation of delegations from Oman at the International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic world: KazanForum” and invited to visit the Forum this year. 

“We consider that it is very important to develop our economic and investment bonds further. the Tatarstan-Oman trade turnover increased 15-fold and amounted to 20 million dollars US,” the Rais of the republic said but added that however a decline has been recorded over the past year.

“We have many opportunities for cooperation and first of all in economy. We should work on increasing mutual trade turnover,’ he emphasized and mentioned power and petrochemical industries, agriculture and informatization as the most promising. 

Rustam Minnikhanov briefly informed about the industrial and economic capacity of Tatarstan and emphasized that the republic is the acknowledged center of developing contacts of Russia with the Islamic world. He also announced that a representative of Tatarstan will soon begin working in Oman. 

In his turn Mulham Al-Jarf thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for his personal participation in building Tatarstan-Oman relations and recollected his having visited the forum in Kazan. He said that food security, IT and AI are the most interesting spheres for Oman and that the Halal sphere for children raised his special interest. 

“Consider Oman your second home. We want to work with you,” Mulham Al-Jarf said and added that he will organize a representative delegation of the Authority and send it to the coming KazanForum.
