Rustam Minnikhanov meets Ambassador of Bangladesh to Russia

On 27 January, speaking at his meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Bangladesh to Russia Nazrul Islam in the Kazan Kremlin, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that Bangladesh is a reliable partner of Russia in the South Asia. Next year it will be 55 years since Russia and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations, and   during this time, the parties have strengthened mutual trust and reached new levels of cooperation, he said. 

“Russia and Bangladesh have similar positions on the regional and international agenda. We were honoured to host the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Bangladesh at the BRICS Summit held in Kazan in October 2024, “the Rais of the republic said. 

He stated that today trade bonds of Tatarstan with Bangladesh are not well developed but have a good potential for that and certain types of products of the republic, such as KAMAZ trucks and helicopters, are well known in Bangladesh. 

“Our task is to find common ground. We should work on increasing trade turnover and expanding the range of products supplied. Tatarstan is ready to export machine building, petrochemical, agricultural and other products to your country. It is also important to develop bonds in tourism, culture, education and sport.  Here, Mr. Ambassador, we need to ramp up our joint work,” the Rais of the republic emphasized. 

He noted that interaction with Islamic countries has always been one of the leading spheres of foreign economic and international activity of Tatarstan and invited a delegation from Bangladesh to take part in the International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic world: KazanForum” to be held in May this year. 

In his turn the Bangladesh Ambassador thanked for a warm welcome and emphasized that Tatarstan amazes with its achievements in a wide variety of fields. “You are developing very steadily, at a good pace, and realizing all your potential. I hope that with your support we will be able to strengthen the ties between Bangladesh and Tatarstan. There are indeed many opportunities for this,” Mister Islam said. 

In conclusion Rustam Minnikhanov proposed to work out in detail the most promising areas for the development of trade, economic and humanitarian ties and to create a corresponding roadmap.
