January 27 - the Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege

On 27 January Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin wrote in his address to veterans of the Great Patriotic War (WWII): “On behalf of the Government and me personally I congratulate you with the 82th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege by Soviet troops.

January 27, 1944 is one of the most important dates of the Great Patriotic War. World history never knew a feat equal to the feat of our people during the days of the difficult struggle against the Nazi invaders and 900 terrible days and nights, is a chronicle of fearlessness and self-sacrifice.

The courage of residents and defenders of the city, their amazing strength of spirit and resilience, which became a symbol of the unwavering will to win and the struggle for a happy future for their homeland, captivated the entire world..

For all of us this historic event is an example of invincibility, mutual support and unity that have always distinguished our multinational people. Today, words of gratitude are addressed to all those who, at the cost of their own lives, helped achieve Victory, as well as to the veterans and residents of besieged Leningrad for its defense.”

In conclusion Aleksey Pesoshin thanked veterans and wished them good health, long life, prosperity and confidence in the future.
