On 24 January, speaking at a regional meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov gave an errand to step up work on preventing law violations by underage and young people.

This year several incidents among youngsters happened in Tatarstan. Thus on 22 January a seventh grade students in Nizhnekamsk attacked the school security and tried to stab him and on 21 January a seventh grade student tried to poison his classmates.

To prevent repetition of such incidents all responsible persons must step up work on preventing law violations by underage and young people. Heads of cities and regions as chairmen of municipal commissions on juvenile affairs should consider issues of preventing juvenile crime every week,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

He also gave an errand to the regional Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva and the Minister of Education and Science of the republic Ilsur Khadiullin to organize an unscheduled meeting of the Tatarstan Commission on Minors' Affairs to consider all facts properly and a meeting with school principles.

«It is necessary to organize educational campaigns for students and their parents regarding penalties for committing crimes and illegal activities. Furthermore, it is necessary to ensure that access control is strengthened at all social institutions, the Rais of the republic said and asked law enforcement officers to assist in this work.

He particularly emphasized that if the Nizhnekamsk school employee had not resisted the knife-wielding attacker, the consequences could have been much direr. “Thanks God no kids were hurt,” Rustam Minnikhanov added.
