On 17 January at a regular meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov gave a number of errands on ensuring safe use of in-house and in-apartment gas equipment.

Thus local administrations, units of the Emergencies Ministry, gas services, managing companies and the State Housing Inspection were given an errand to ramp up work of monitoring settlements attaching special attention to the condition of gas equipment, ventilation and electric and heating devices. It is also important to maintain daily control over the residences of large families, as well as families in difficult life situations.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that, serious incidents involving fires and carbon monoxide poisoning both in multi-apartment and private houses were registered in the republic in the first two weeks of January and that the number of fires has increased by 27 per cent compared to January last year. “We need to inform our citizens about such incidents and, most importantly, about measures that can help avoid such situations,” he said.

The Rais of the republic also gave an errand to all organizations and ministries to ramp up work in snow removal from courtyards and roofs of houses. “There is no need to wait for incidents that cause harm to life, health, and property of citizens. Responsible services must work proactively,” he said.

Having reminded that on 18-19 January people will celebrate the Epiphany Orthodox holiday, Rustam Minnikhanov gave an errand to inform citizens about the location of the fonts for Epiphany bathing, develop travel routes to them and to prepare parking areas for vehicles and warming points. It is also important to prevent unauthorized bathing areas and crowds of people on the ice, he said.
