Briefing in the Tatarstan Government House informs that more than 8 thousand events held during New Year holidays in the republic

On 13 January, speaking about New Year events at a briefing in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva informed that more than 8 thousand topical events were held during New Year holidays in the republic.

“These included mass celebrations, theatrical performances, concerts, sporting competitions, and much more. Outdoor events were particularly popular, “she said and informed about numerous events held within the Kurshe (Neighbor) festival and the regional Christmas Tree celebrations organized with participation of the Rais (Head) of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov.

“The festival is going on and will end on 28 February with 162 events to take placed ahead. I am sure we will continue this practice in summer and we are already gaining experience with residents of the republic in organizing events dedicated to various holidays, “Leyla Fazleeva added.

In his turn the Deputy Minister of Culture of the republic Damir Natfullin told journalists about events held at cultural facilities, which included performances, concerts, interactive programmes, master-classes and exhibitions, as well as about New Year performances at various theatres of Kazan.

The Deputy Head of the City Executive Committee for Social Issues Azat Abzalov informed that Christmas tree collection points where you can drop off trees for recycling have started their work in Kazan from today (14 January) and added that details about the points can be found at the Kazan City Hall portal.  

Even though special attention during the New Year celebrations was attached to safety, a number of incidents were recorded, the Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for Tatarstan Maksim Truschin emphasized and added: “Despite ongoing awareness-raising among citizens on safety precautions when handling pyrotechnics, six people got eye injuries because of parts of pyrotechnic products hitting the face.”

On top of that from 31 December to 11 January there were 226 fires killing five people and injuring nine more, he said.
