Rais of Tatarstan: With the onset of autumn and winter a set of urgent tasks arises to ensure the safety of citizens at home

On 1 November, speaking at a regional meeting in the Government House of the republic, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov stated that with the onset of autumn and winter a set of urgent tasks arises to ensure the safety of citizens at home.

Next week the snow has been forecast, and Rustam Minnikhanov said that road and communal services should be ready to start work in winter mode. “It is necessary – together with the Traffic Police – to take measures for minimizing accidents risks in difficult weather conditions. Heads of regions should complete work on concluding contracts for road and street network maintenance for 2026 as soon as possible,” he emphasized.

Rustam Minnikhanov gave an errand to the Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic together with heads (of city districts and regions) to ensure the readiness of communal services and managing companies to winter maintenance of public spaces, courtyards and pedestrian zones, to timely snow and ice removal from these zones. “These issues are important for our residents.  It is necessary to keep them under constant control,” he underlined.

The Rais of the republic also attracted attention to issues annual rise of the number of people suffering from fires and carbon monoxide in the republic and said: “To prevent fires it is necessary to organize inter-departmental preventive groups together with the units of the Emergencies Ministry, the Internal Ministry, social protection and gas services and managing companies, paying special attention to education of families with many children, lonely elderly and socially disadvantaged people.”

Speaking about safe use of gas equipment, Rustam Minnikhanov said: “Gas services and management companies must conduct extensive information campaigns to explain to citizens the rules for the safe use of gas equipment. It is necessary to ramp up control over the condition of intra-apartment and intra-house gas networks, especially in older housing stock. Our absolute priority is safety of people.”

“I ask all services and responsible persons to approach these issues with the utmost responsibility,” he added.
