Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev have a meeting in Astana

On 31 October in Astana at his meeting with the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who came on a working trip to Kazakhstan, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated his guest for having been reelected to the post of the Rais of Tatarstan and thanked him for his active participation in strengthening Russia-Kazakhstan relations and mutually beneficial partnership between Kazakhstan and Tatarstan regions.

“We are getting ready for a state visit to Moscow on 12 November and think this is a milestone in our relations. Very important documents will be signed which will have a serious positive impact on further cooperation. I know you have visited North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions and you have plans on the deployment of enterprises in Kazakhstan. We welcome these plans and will always support all initiatives of Tatarstan in our country,” the President said. 

In his turn Rustam Minnikhanov thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his continuous attention to the development of cooperation with the republic and stated that Kazakhstan is one of the leading foreign partners of Tatarstan.

He informed that economic interaction shows stable growth and last year the trade turnover between Tatarstan and Kazakhstan made760m dollars US and according to results of the first six months of 2025 the trade turnover demonstrates positive dynamics having grown by 45% compared to the same period last year. Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan companies work actively in Kazakhstan, with its truck market historically being one of the largest and promising for the KAMAZ Company.

The Rais of the republic emphasized that interregional bonds have a very rich agenda and reminded about the General Consulate of Kazakhstan working in Kazan and a representative office of Tatarstan in Astana, reminded about agreements signed with a number of Kazakhstan regions and regular direct flights and railway communication between Kazan, Astana and Almaty.

Rustam Minnikhanov also informed that more than one thousand students from Kazakhstan study at Tatarstan universities and the national community of Kazakhs takes active participation in life of the republic. He also expressed special gratitude for the support given to Tatar community in Kazakhstan.

The Parties of the meeting confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening of comprehensive cooperation between Tatarstan and Kazakhstan within the framework of friendly Russia-Kazakhstan relations.
