Rustam Minnikhanov: In recent years our contacts with Uzbekistan have noticeably intensified

On 15 October in the Government House of the republic the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with the Co-Chairmen of the Commission on Cooperation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Ilyas Umakhanov and Sadyk Safayev, who came to take part in the Х meeting of the Commission held in Kazan.

Speaking at the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov thanked for having chosen Kazan a venue for the meeting and said: “I would also want to thank you for your attention to the development of interaction with our republic. I am sure the special role in strengthening our partnership belongs to inter-parliamentary contacts.” 

He stated that it is not for the first time that the State Council of the republic becomes a site for such events and that there is a serious potential in further expansion of bonds between members of both parliaments.  Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that in recent years our contacts with Uzbekistan have noticeably intensified and reminded about the two visits of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Miziyoyev to Kazan last year and the participation of a representative delegation from Uzbekistan in the KazanForum in May of the current year. 

Rustam Minnikhanov noted the dynamically developing trade turnover between Tatarstan and Uzbekistan and said: “We have every opportunity to increase the volume and range of mutual supplies of goods and services.” 

In his turn the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis  Sadyk Safaev thanked the leadership of Tatarstan for the high level of organization of the visit to the republic and passed warm greetings from the President of Uzbekistan. “We highly appreciate your attitude to strengthening bilateral cooperation of Russia and Uzbekistan. We closely watch the dynamic development of Tatarstan,” he said.

“We are delighted with achievements of Tatarstan. Your republic is a vanguard and leader in interregional cooperation with Uzbekistan. As for the work of our commission, we want it to be a commission of specific cases,” Ilyas Umakhanov emphasized.
